Road Debris Causes Fuel Tank Rupture

On April 1, our Emergency Spill Response Team was requested to Interstate 840 for a fuel spill. The driver of the truck ran over a piece of pipe which ruptured the fuel tank. This never happens with an truck thats low on fuel. This truck had just over 3/4 of a tank of fuel and lost almost all of the fuel before our arrival. The driver pulled off the side of the road when when they started to smell diesel and tried to stop the leak the best they could. Fortunately there was no creeks or streams around for it to get into. Our team was able to plug the hole and save some fuel for the truck to be moved to safe location where a tow truck was able to hook up and take the truck for repairs. With the quick thinking of our supervisor and crew we were able to keep this truck operational and keep the scene small in size. Call us for all of your Emergency Spill Response and Hazmat needs!
