Large Fuel Spill Cleanup at I-65 & Bear Creek Pike | Enviro Medics Hazmat Team
On December 19 at approximately 9:00 AM, the Enviro Medics Emergency Spill Response Team was dispatched to the intersection of Bear Creek Pike Bear Creek Pike and Interstate 65 Interstate 65 for a large fuel spill affecting the roadway and shoulder area.
Upon arrival, our team conducted a full site assessment and determined that approximately 50 gallons of fuel had been released from the vehicle, spreading across 1,500 feet of roadway. With fuel migrating over such a long distance, immediate action was critical to protect motorists and prevent the spill from reaching nearby ditches and stormwater pathways.
Our technicians worked closely with the towing companies to make the vehicles safe to tow, ensuring no additional fuel leaked during recovery operations. Once stabilized, our crew deployed absorbents, surface treatment tools, and specialized remediation equipment to treat both the roadway and the shoulder area.
By utilizing our equipment to its fullest capabilities and leveraging the experience of our 24/7 hazmat response team, we were able to reopen the highway in just 45 minutes, returning the area to safe travel conditions quickly and effectively.
